Vanderbilt authored one of the most improbable endings in college football history on Saturday afternoon, defeating NC State in Nashville with a last-second sequence that defied belief and instantly drew comparisons to the Music City Miracle.
NC State Controlled the Game Early
The Wolfpack set the tone from the opening kickoff, building a 17-7 halftime lead and maintaining control throughout. With just over a minute remaining, NC State appeared poised to seal an upset victory after safety Brody Barnhardt intercepted a Vanderbilt pass.
A Desperate Sequence Unfolds
Vanderbilt had only two timeouts remaining, leaving the Commodores with no realistic path to regain possession unless they forced a turnover. NC State ran for three yards, and Vanderbilt used a timeout. The Wolfpack gained another three yards on the next play, prompting another Vanderbilt timeout.
With 53 seconds left, NC State ran for one yard to drain more clock before taking a delay-of-game penalty with six seconds remaining. That set up fourth-and-7 at the 4-yard line.
